Transparent Principles

Make your news principles transparent

Principles Book

By integrating the news format you can make your news principles transparent. You can embed a link, within each article, to your statement of principles (which may be those of the newspaper in which the article is published, general principles, or individual principles). It doesn't say what those principles should be, it just tells readers that they're there and links to them.

This helps:

  • Indicate that the content is intended as news
  • Demonstrate the values behind what you do; including the ethics and standards of newsgathering;
  • Enable people to limit their search for content that is intended as news - as opposed to commercial, government or personal information
  • Show the value of what you do, compared to those who are not transparent about their principles

To put it another way, tell your readers what you're doing is journalism.
